So that’s it – you’ve just decided you’re going to start your own online business and become an entrepreneur. You’re so over sitting on the sidelines, watching others live their dreams and wondering what life would be like if you were your own boss.
You’ve made up your mind and ready to do whatever it takes to reach your goals. (Yay you!)
Once that’s settled, now what? Where do you start? You may be incredibly overwhelmed with all of the information floating around on the internet about how to properly start up your business.
While there’s no arguing there are a lot of new things to learn when you start, (such as how to set up your website, how to start your branding process, etc.) before you get into the technical stuff, there is one step that you cannot miss.
Before you invest in a course on how to create an amazing opt-in to grow your e-mail list, you absolutely must invest in yourself first. What do I mean by investing in yourself?
Work on getting a bulletproof business mindset.
Even if you’ve done the research and have all the tools and knowledge necessary to grow an amazing business, if your business mindset isn’t solid, you won’t see the results you desire. Now you may be wondering…
How exactly does my mindset impact my success?
Your mindset impacts how you do everything, from running your business to your personal life. It controls your values, beliefs, attitudes, habits and influences your actions. If you’re functioning on a limited or negative mindset, even the most strategic business plan won’t do you any good.
Having an abundant mindset increases your motivation and desire to get things done. It keeps you dedicated to your end goal and is super helpful to getting you back on track if you’re facing overwhelming difficulties (which is unavoidable when starting a business).
It’ll also keep you productive by helping you instill positive habits that produce results and keep you dreaming big for the next goal in your life instead of settling for mediocre.
Can you tell how obsessed I am with having an enhanced mindset? Fun fact: I have my masters degree in industrial-organizational psychology, where I studied how to improve human behavior in the workplace and create happier, more productive organizations and individuals. A huge recurring theme during my studies was the impact that the attitudes and behaviors of individuals had on the success of the organization.
The same idea applies to entrepreneurs, in fact, it’s even more relevant since entrepreneurs must be hella self-motivated to achieve their goals. Without a boss breathing down your neck, you have to be responsible for your own deadlines and productivity, and the number one factor for being super productive is your mindset.
Okay, you’ve convinced me. So, how can I enhance my mindset?
Working on your mindset is a lifelong process that must be reinforced every day, but the good news is it gets easier once you start.
There are many different ways you can work on your mindset self-improvement, one foolproof way is to start reading personal development books.
If you’re in the process of starting your own business, here are five of my absolute favorite must have entrepreneur books you can read to get started on enhancing your business mindset and set yourself up for success before you even start.
The Success Principles by Jack Canfield
I am totally in love with this book. Since first reading it in 2013, it has been the catalyst for completely altering how I view my life, my purpose and my abilities to pursue my dreams. Jack Canfield is a great author who clearly states real actions you can take to gain clarity, increase your motivation and create a plan to get things done. He also includes success stories of individuals who have accomplished amazing things that will motivate you to pursue your passion.
The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson
In this book, Jeff Olson tackles the problem that most of us face when attempting to be productive, actually doing the work and seeing results. His methods are so simple and easy to do, but also incredibly effective. By implementing these small daily tasks, you can form lifelong habits that don’t impede your progress, but help you grow in the direction you want to. He also discusses how your philosophy impacts your results and has a refreshing viewpoint on how to refine it to finally produce the results you’ve been longing for.
You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero
I’ve seen so many people mention they love this book and I’m no exception. First of all, Jen Sincero is not only brilliant, but hilarious too and she shows off her amazing personality in this book. The advice she offers is blunt, to say the least. She doesn’t sugarcoat anything, she just tells it like it is and her no-nonsense approach is extremely effective. She’s also super relatable and reading her book feels like getting awesome advice from a girlfriend. This book will help you get started on your mindset transformation journey and achieve goals fast.
The Barefoot Executive by Carrie Wilkerson
This is such a great book for women who crave freedom and flexibility and wish to start an online business that is location independent to achieve that. Not only does Carrie focus on establishing your “Why” and other mindset improvement techniques like how to stay focused, but she also helps you utilize the skills you already have and teaches you how to find who to help with them. She also offers tools and resources to get started on your way to massive outcomes in your business.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
Finally, this book is a staple in every entrepreneurs library. It was written in 1937 (whoa, I know, right?!) but it’s advice is timeless and is still relevant today. Don’t be turned off by the title if you’re thinking it’s a get rich quick book. It’s the complete opposite. It not only addresses how your mindset helps you achieve financial success, but how you can accomplish your purpose in other ways as well. This book helps you deal with combating procrastination, enhancing imagination and how to utilize your desire to create an actual organized plan to reach your goal.
These are just a few of my favorite mindset improving books necessary for new female entrepreneurs to read. They’re useful before and even during your journey to becoming a huge success. Remember that your number one investment should always be yourself!
Let me know if you’ve read any of the books in the comments below and what you think of them. Or if you haven’t, what are some of your favorite mindset developing books? I’d love to know.
